The Cask Strength series has become something of a flagship for GlenDronach, an annual reminder of what the distillery does best: deep sherry maturation at undiluted strength. Batch 11 continues the line, married from a parcel of Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks and bottled non-chill-filtered at natural colour.

GlenDronach was founded in 1826 by James Allardice and a group of local farmers. After a long period under various owners, it was revived in 2002 by Billy Walker's BenRiach Distillery Company, which doubled down on the sherry tradition and released a now-famous run of single cask bottlings. Brown-Forman acquired the distillery in 2016, and Rachel Barrie has overseen the cask strength batches since.

Batch 11 lands at 59.8% ABV. The nose is unmistakably GlenDronach: rich Christmas cake, dark cherry compote, leather, almond and a curl of pipe tobacco. On the palate it is dense and chewy — date, raisin, bitter marmalade and polished oak, with the alcohol giving plenty of warmth without sharpness. A drop of water opens it generously. The finish is long, dry and oaken, with cocoa, tobacco and a final flourish of cinnamon.

For sherry-cask enthusiasts this remains one of the most consistent and rewarding annual releases on the Highland map.
