Tasting Notes

Nose

Strawberry, buttery caramel, apricot. Raisin, praline, a hint of cigar box. The three-region malt selection adds genuine breadth to the Lowland grain base.

Palate

Apricot jam, nougat, silky toffee. Vanilla fudge, fresh toast. The 70% Lowland grain provides smoothness while the Islay, Highland and Speyside malts add character and complexity. At 46%, genuine body.

Finish

Sweet and composed — the three-region malts sustain with fruit and spice.

Moncreiffe Signature is a blended Scotch from Scottish independent bottler Moncreiffe & Co. — marrying 70% Lowland grain whisky with a mixture of Islay, Highland and Speyside malts. At 46%, it is presented at a strength that gives the blend genuine body and flavour expression.

The three-region malt selection adds interest. Islay contributes a subtle smoky warmth, Highland adds body and fruit, Speyside provides sweetness and elegance. The 70% grain component ensures smoothness, while the 30% malt provides genuine character.

Moncreiffe Signature is a well-made, well-priced blend from an independent bottler with genuine ambition. The 46% presentation, three-region malt selection and balanced flavour profile create a blend with more interest than many at this price. A signature worth recognising.

Brought this to a tasting and it disappeared fast. Rich amber colour, ripe fruit on the nose, soft and approachable on the palate with just enough complexity to keep things interesting. It's the kind of whiskey that makes everyone at the table happy.

This is a whiskey that rewards patience. The first sip is all caramel and vanilla, but give it twenty minutes in the glass and layers of baking spice, toasted oak, and dried stone fruit emerge. The mouthfeel is silky and rich. One of the best bottles I've opened this year.
