First Impressions
Blanton's Original Single Barrel is the bourbon that invented an entire category. Each bottle is drawn from a single barrel aged in the metal-clad Warehouse H at Buffalo Trace, then bottled at 46.5% ABV and topped with one of eight collectible horse-and-jockey stoppers that spell out B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S.
Distillery & Heritage
Created in 1984 by Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee, Blanton's was named in honour of Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who ran the distillery from 1921 to 1953 and famously hand-picked barrels from Warehouse H — the only metal-clad warehouse on the site, built by Blanton because the metal heated up faster and aged whiskey more aggressively. Blanton's uses Buffalo Trace's high-rye Mash Bill #2.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose is bright and inviting — honey, vanilla, citrus zest and toasted oak with a hint of nutmeg. The palate is creamy and honeyed with caramel, orange peel, baking spice and a delicate rye prickle.
Verdict
A genuine icon.
