Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich caramel, dried cherry, a robust oak sweetness. The additional proof over the Original gives the nose more presence and authority. Beneath the sweetness, vanilla, leather and a gentle spice. Dense and inviting.

Palate

Full-bodied and sweet — caramel, dried fruit, a robust oak spice. The 103 proof gives it more intensity than the standard Blanton's, with a chewy, coating texture. Mid-palate brings brown sugar, roasted nut and a gentle warmth. The single barrel format adds individuality.

Finish

Long, with caramel, dried fruit and a warming oak spice.

Blanton's Gold is the export-strength version of the iconic Blanton's single barrel bourbon — bottled at 103 proof (51.5% ABV) instead of the 93 proof of the Original. It uses the same Buffalo Trace mash bill #2 — a high-rye recipe — and the same single barrel selection process, but the additional ten proof points give it noticeably more intensity and depth.

The extra strength makes a material difference. Where the Original is smooth and approachable, the Gold is richer, more complex, with a chewier texture and a longer finish. The high-rye mash bill's natural spiciness is amplified, and the oak influence is more assertive, adding layers of dark fruit and roasted nut. This is Blanton's for drinkers who want more from the iconic bottle.

Blanton's Gold is one of the most sought-after bourbon exports, with demand in international markets that far exceeds supply. At its retail price, it offers genuine quality — a well-made, flavourful single barrel bourbon with more intensity than the Original and more accessibility than the Straight from the Barrel. The horse-topped bottle remains one of the most recognisable in whiskey, and the Gold label deserves to be more than just a collector's item. It is an excellent bourbon, full stop.
