Yamazaki 25 is one of those rare whiskies that crosses from spirit into legend. Composed entirely from malt matured in Spanish sherry casks — predominantly oloroso — it represents Suntory's most concentrated expression of patience, blending mastery, and the unique terroir of the Yamazaki valley.
The 25 Year Old expression has been honoured repeatedly on the world stage, taking World's Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards and consistent Gold and Master medals at the International Spirits Challenge. It is a whisky of which only a tiny quantity is released each year.
The colour is profound — deep mahogany with a glint of garnet. The nose is unmistakable old sherry: prunes, dark honey, walnut oil, polished antique furniture, and beneath it all, the haunting incense of mizunara oak that Yamazaki has made its signature.
The palate is sumptuous yet poised. Dried figs and blackberry jam, treacle and bitter chocolate, then clove and sandalwood unfurl in slow waves. There is no heat, no rush — only depth. Aged sherry tannin gives the whole thing structure, like the keel of a great ship.
The finish is, quite simply, endless. Dark fruit gives way to oak spice and a final, lingering smoulder of temple incense. To drink Yamazaki 25 is to experience Japanese whisky at its highest articulation — meditative, ceremonial, and utterly singular.
