Kings County Distillery Coffee Whiskey landed on my desk at 40% ABV, made from a blend of bourbon, corn whiske. Here is what I found.
Nose
This is brownish red in color, looks a lot like a watered down cold brew in color. Really coats the glass. I get sour cherry, tobacco, and leather on the nose initially. Subtle notes of walnut and corn also come through.
Palate
The main thing keeping me from scoring this higher is that, for me, it was an experience of drinking two things. Each sip started off with the experience of sipping whiskey and finished like I had just taken a gulp of cold brew. Neither flavor profile is bad, they just didn’t seem to come together in the glass. Works well enough in a cocktail, but I feel like it has a fairly limited scope of use to either coffee drinks or spirit forward drinks with other liqueurs to sweeten it up.
Finish
The flavor profile almost breaks in half for me, getting a corn whiskey up front and a cold brew on the finish. The front had sweeter notes of caramel and vanilla with a touch of dry oak. The finish is the flavor of a fruitier low acid coffee. Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by Whiskeyful or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
The Bottom Line
Kings County Distillery Coffee Whiskey is a perfectly respectable whiskey that does what it sets out to do. — it will not blow your mind, but it will not disappoint you either. A reliable choice.
