First Impressions
Tullibardine 228 — Highland malt finished in 228-litre Burgundy Pinot Noir barriques from Château de Chassagne-Montrachet. The '228' refers to the cask size in litres. Part of Tullibardine's Signature Range.
The Burgundy Connection
Founded 1949 in Blackford, between Perth and Stirling, on the site of a brewery dating to the 12th century. NAS, initially matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, then finished for 12 months in the Burgundy wine casks. Bottled at 43%.
Tasting
Red cherry and vanilla nose with Turkish Delight. The palate delivers forest fruits, creamy malt, and toasted nuts. The finish brings red fruit and oak with surprising pepper heat. The Burgundy cask adds genuine wine-like fruit depth. An ideal summer dram.
The Verdict
Tullibardine 228 earns a 6.5 — a pleasant, fruit-forward Highland malt with an interesting Burgundy cask concept. At £45, it's reasonable for a wine-finished whisky. The Pinot Noir influence is genuine, though the NAS youth shows and the finish can be rough. Worth trying for wine lovers exploring whisky.
