The Tobermory 15 Year Old occupies a curious position in the distillery's range — sitting above the 12 but below the limited releases, finished in Spanish sherry casks after initial maturation in bourbon wood. It is the expression that bridges the gap between the clean, malty 12 Year Old and the more exotic cask experiments that Tobermory has been exploring under Distell's ownership.

Fifteen years in wood has given the spirit a depth that the younger expressions only hint at. The bourbon maturation provides vanilla and citrus; the sherry finish adds dried fruit, nut, and a warm spiciness that wraps around the Tobermory distillery character — malty, slightly oily, with that distinctive maritime whisper from the harbour-side location.

The nose opens with orange peel, dried apricot, vanilla, and a dusting of cinnamon, with the sherry finish adding nuttiness and a background sweetness. The palate is medium-bodied and satisfying: stone fruit, caramel, gentle spice, milk chocolate, and a maritime salinity that gives the finish its distinctive character.

The finish is medium-long, with sherry-influenced dried fruit, oak spice, and a hint of sea salt at the close. It is a well-made, understated island malt — neither as flashy as the Ledaig peated range nor as simple as the 12. For drinkers who want a sherried island whisky without the price tag of an Islay equivalent, Tobermory 15 delivers quietly and well.
