Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet peat smoke, caramel, petrichor, distant campfire, cedar wood, lemongrass, banana, hint of clove — the Amoroso adding warmth to the Skye character

Palate

Caramel and peat upfront, earthy and slightly medicinal mid-palate, charcoal, nuttiness, sea salt, brine, crisp white sugar, mature wood — complex and layered

Finish

Mesquite BBQ smokiness, subtle astringency, lingering dry warmth — the sherry finish enhancing rather than overwhelming the peat

First Impressions

Talisker Distillers Edition — the annual limited release within Diageo's Classic Malts range. Double matured: first in American oak refill casks, then finished in Amoroso sherry casks — a blend of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry.

The Amoroso Touch

The Amoroso finish has been Talisker's signature Distillers Edition treatment for decades. It adds dried fruit sweetness and richness without masking the distillery's hallmark maritime peat and black pepper. One of the best uses of sherry finishing on a peated malt. 45.8%.

Tasting

Sweet peat smoke nose with caramel and distant campfire. Complex palate of caramel, peat, sea salt, and mature wood. Mesquite BBQ finish with lingering dry warmth. The sherry enhances rather than overwhelms.

The Verdict

Talisker Distillers Edition earns an 8 — a reliable annual release that adds sherry richness to Skye's maritime peat. At £60, good value over the standard 10 Year Old. The Amoroso cask is the perfect partner for Talisker's black pepper character.
