First Impressions
Launched in 2012, the 1824 Series replaced age statements with colour: Gold, Amber, Sienna, Ruby. Each expression was defined entirely by the natural colour drawn from the casks. Amber is the second tier.
Distillery & Heritage
The 1824 reference is to the year Alexander Reid founded Macallan on Easter Elchies. Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno conceived the colour-coded range to put cask quality front and centre at a time when no-age-statement releases were dominating travel retail. Amber draws exclusively from Spanish and American sherry-seasoned oak.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose is bright and inviting — vanilla, lemon zest, toffee apple. The palate brings honey, raisin, soft cinnamon and the unmistakable Macallan dried-fruit signature, dialled to a comfortable medium.
Verdict
An accessible introduction to sherry-cask Macallan. Charming and very drinkable.
