First Impressions
The 15 French Oak Reserve was The Glenlivet's calling card for fans who wanted something with a bit more spice and structure than the 12.
Distillery & Heritage
Pioneered by former Master Distiller Jim Cryle, this expression is matured first in traditional oak casks and then finished in casks made from new Limousin oak — the same tight-grained French oak traditionally used to age Cognac. Limousin oak is more porous than American oak and rich in tannins, imparting distinctive spicy, nutty and creamy notes.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose is rich and inviting — toasted almond, orange peel, vanilla, a flicker of ginger and creamy French oak. The palate brings the Limousin influence forward: marmalade, dark sugar, hazelnut, baking spice and a soft Glenlivet fruit core underneath.
Verdict
A genuinely distinctive Speyside that wears its French oak well.
