First Impressions
Glenkinchie has been Edinburgh's local malt for well over a century.
Distillery & Heritage
Founded in 1825 in the village of Pencaitland in East Lothian, Glenkinchie sits in the heart of Scotland's barley country. It is famous for housing the largest pot stills in Scotland — its wash still has a capacity of more than 30,000 litres — and for using worm tub condensers, which together produce a clean, light, grassy distillate. Glenkinchie was selected by Diageo as the Lowland representative when the Classic Malts range launched in 1988.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose is delicate and inviting: freshly cut grass, lemon zest, soft vanilla and a bakery-fresh cereal note. The palate is light-bodied but creamy.
Verdict
A quietly accomplished aperitif malt.
