First Impressions
Pour a dram of Glenfiddich 12 and you immediately understand why it's the world's best-selling single malt.
Distillery & Heritage
Founded in 1886 by William Grant in Dufftown, Glenfiddich (Gaelic for 'Valley of the Deer') was the first single malt to be actively marketed outside Scotland in the 1960s, single-handedly creating the modern single malt category. Still family-owned by William Grant & Sons, it remains the best-selling single malt Scotch in the world. The 12 is matured for at least 12 years in a combination of American ex-bourbon and European oloroso sherry casks, then married in oak tuns before bottling.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose is signature Glenfiddich — fresh-cut pear, green apple skin, soft malt and a creamy butteriness from the bourbon wood. The palate keeps that orchard freshness front and centre, layered with vanilla, light cereal sweetness and a delicate sherry nuttiness underneath.
Verdict
The benchmark entry-level Speyside. Endlessly drinkable.
