First Impressions
Glencadam 10 — from one of Scotland's most underrated distilleries. Founded 1825 in Brechin, Angus. Spent decades as a blending component for Ballantine's and Stewart's Cream of the Barley, invisible to single malt drinkers.
The Angus Dundee Revival
Angus Dundee Distillers acquired it in 2003 and began releasing single malts. The 10 Year Old is the entry point — non-chill filtered, natural colour, 46%. Light, elegant, unpeated. The distillery's obscurity keeps prices modest for the quality.
Tasting
Sherbet and pear drops nose with vanilla and cantaloupe. Pear drop palate with malt, citrus, and oaty biscuits. Pleasantly long finish with balanced fruit and spice. Simple but beautifully made.
The Verdict
Glencadam 10 earns a 7.5 — excellent value for a well-made Highland malt at £38. The 46% non-chill-filtered bottling punches above its price. If Glencadam were better known, this would cost £50. Discover it before everyone else does.
