St George's Distillery in Roudham, Norfolk, was England's first dedicated whisky distillery when it opened in 2006 — breaking a gap of over a century since English whisky production ceased. Founded by James Nelstrop and Iain Henderson (former Laphroaig distillery manager), it uses locally grown Norfolk barley and English oak for some of its maturation.
The Original is the core expression, presenting the distillery's clean, malty spirit in a straightforward form. The Norfolk barley provides a fresh cereal character, and the maturation in American and ex-sherry oak adds gentle sweetness and structure.
The English Whisky Co. holds a pioneering position in English whisky — the distillery that proved the concept and inspired dozens of followers. The whisky itself is well-made if uncomplicated, and the Norfolk provenance gives it a genuine sense of place. As English whisky continues to grow as a category, St George's will be remembered as the distillery that started it all.
