First Impressions
The Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve was created with one purpose — to pair with a fine cigar. Bottled at a robust 44%, it delivers exactly the kind of bold, sherried, chocolatey weight that can stand toe to toe with a Cuban Robusto.
Distillery & Heritage
Founded in 1839 on the shores of the Cromarty Firth, Dalmore is famous for its 12-pointed royal stag emblem and master distiller Richard Paterson's love of sherry casks. The Cigar Malt Reserve is matured in a combination of American white oak ex-bourbon, 30-year-old Matusalem oloroso sherry butts, and Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks — a layered recipe that gives the whisky its richness.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose is unmistakably Dalmore — orange peel, dark chocolate and raisins lead, with cinnamon and ginger underneath. The palate is thick and oily, delivering bitter chocolate, candied orange and treacle toffee, with sultanas and walnut adding sherry weight. The finish is long, warming and spicy.
Verdict
Whether or not you smoke, the Cigar Malt Reserve is one of Dalmore's most satisfying expressions — a sherry-rich Highland indulgence that delivers the brand's signature opulence in spades.
