The Causeway Collection is Bushmills' showcase for rare single cask and single vintage releases drawn from the distillery's deepest warehouses. Launched in 2020, it has featured a parade of unusual cask finishes — port, marsala, Cognac, sauternes, cognac, ruby and tawny — all built on the same triple-distilled single malt that has flowed from the Old Bushmills stills for centuries.
This 2000 vintage spent the bulk of its nineteen years in ex-bourbon barrels before a finishing period in casks that previously held Sauternes, the famed botrytised dessert wine of Bordeaux. The result is a pale gold whiskey with an unmistakably floral and stone-fruit character — the noble rot of Sauternes translated through Irish malt and Antrim air.
Bottled at cask strength and without chill filtration, it preserves every freckle of the original spirit. Causeway releases are limited to a few thousand bottles each and have become highly sought after by collectors and Irish whiskey enthusiasts since the range's debut.
If you only ever try one Causeway expression, a Sauternes-finished release is a beautiful introduction — Bushmills at its most delicate and perfumed, far removed from the heavier sherry-driven side of the distillery.
