Tasting Notes

Nose

Bright citrus, malt, a gentle maritime freshness. The Classic Laddie is unpeated — allowing the Bruichladdich spirit to speak without smoke. Beneath the citrus, honey, vanilla and a gentle warmth. Clean, bright and unmistakably Islay.

Palate

Bright and malty — citrus, honey, a gentle maritime character. The 100% Scottish barley and lack of peat allow the grain and distillery character to dominate. Mid-palate brings vanilla, a gentle spice and a clean, coastal warmth. At 50%, excellent body.

Finish

Medium-long, with citrus and a gentle, maritime warmth.

Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie is the distillery's core unpeated expression — 100% Scottish barley, matured in a combination of American and European oak, bottled at 50% without peat, chill filtration or colouring. It is Bruichladdich at its most transparent: no smoke to mask the spirit, no filtration to polish the edges, no colouring to deceive the eye.

The unpeated approach on Islay is Bruichladdich's most distinctive quality. Where every other Islay distillery produces peated whisky, Bruichladdich offers the island's terroir without smoke — maritime, citrus-bright, with a gentle saltiness from the coastal location. The Classic Laddie proves that Islay has more to offer than peat.

The Classic Laddie is one of the most honest and well-made whiskies in Scotland. The 50% strength, the lack of chill filtration and colouring, and the transparent Scottish barley sourcing reflect Bruichladdich's progressive, no-compromise philosophy. The quality justifies the principle — this is excellent Islay malt, presented with total integrity.
