Tasting Notes

Nose

Vanilla, aged fruit, buttery shortbread, caramel over subtle oak. Sweet apples, light caramel, mild rye spices, a hint of citrus. Complex yet inviting.

Palate

Light sweetness evolving into spice, toasted nut and oak. Fairly light overall — the body is a little thin, reflecting the 90-proof blended format. Easy to drink and tasty.

Finish

White pepper spice, char and dryness. The finish is modest but clean.

Traveller Whiskey is the collaboration between 10-time Grammy winner Chris Stapleton and Buffalo Trace master distiller Harlen Wheatley. Over 50 different blends were tested before the duo agreed on Blend No. 40 — a premium blended whiskey bottled at 90 proof.

The blend is accessible by design. The flavours are fairly light — vanilla, fruit, shortbread — and the body is thin compared to cask-strength bourbons, but this is a blended whiskey at modest proof, not a single barrel. The ease of drinking is the point, and on those terms it succeeds.

At $39.99, Traveller is surprisingly well-priced for a celebrity-endorsed whiskey from Buffalo Trace. The quality is genuine if modest, the price democratic, and Chris Stapleton's involvement is clearly heartfelt rather than purely commercial. A pleasant, easy-drinking blended American whiskey with real star power behind it.
