First Impressions
Auchentoshan — Scotland's only triple-distilled single malt — uses the same technique as Irish whiskey. The triple distillation produces a lighter, smoother spirit. Twelve years in ex-bourbon and sherry casks in the Lowland region near Glasgow.
Tasting
The nose is toasted almonds and toffee with pears and honey. On the palate at 40%, green apples, vanilla, and hazelnuts. The finish is short with maltiness and fruit.
The Verdict
Auchentoshan 12 earns a 7 — Lowland elegance via triple distillation. Subtle rather than bold, refined rather than powerful. At £35, the lighter side of Scotch.
