Ardbeg Uigeadail — 'OO-gah-dal' — named for the loch that provides Ardbeg's water. A marriage of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks at cask strength (54.2%). The result: Ardbeg's maritime peat combined with dried fruit and sherry sweetness.
Tasting
The nose is Christmas cake with peat smoke and ocean spice. On the palate at 54.2%, espresso and dark chocolate with raisins and campfire marshmallow. The finish is long with honey and lingering smoke.
The Verdict
Ardbeg Uigeadail earns a 9 — peat and sherry at cask strength in spectacular harmony. Utterly approachable at 54.2%. At £65, one of whisky's greatest values for cask strength Islay.
