Heather honey, beeswax, orange marmalade, vanilla custard, dried apricot and a whisper of oak spice.

Rich and creamy with thick honey, candied orange peel, malt loaf, milk chocolate, almond paste and gentle sherry sweetness.

Finish

Long, warming and waxy with lingering honey, toasted oak and a faint hint of pipe tobacco.

First Impressions

Aberfeldy 21 pours a deep gold and immediately announces itself as the honeyed Highlander it has always been. This is the elder statesman of the distillery's core range and the malt that John Dewar's blenders have long considered the spiritual heart of their famous blends.

Distillery & Heritage

Founded in 1898 by Tommy and John Dewar specifically to provide fillings for the Dewar's blend, Aberfeldy sits on the banks of the Pitilie Burn in Perthshire. The distillery's spirit has always been characterised by a honeyed, waxy weight, and at 21 years it gains layers of sherry influence and oak depth. The Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery is also home to the Dewar's World of Whisky visitor centre.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose is generous and unmistakably Aberfeldy — heather honey upfront, with beeswax, orange marmalade and dried fruit. The palate delivers thick honey, candied citrus, malt loaf and gentle sherry-cask spice, with a creamy almond-paste mouthfeel. The finish is long and warming, leaving honey and toasted oak on the tongue.

Verdict

One of the most underrated 21-year-olds in Scotch, Aberfeldy 21 offers genuine old-school Highland honeyed richness at a price that still makes sense. A reliable benchmark for elegant, sherry-kissed maturity.
