Nose
Grainy — cereal, yeast, straw, citrus. A little peat smoke emerges with water. The high malt content (40%) gives the nose more character than most blends at this price.
Palate
Malt and honey with some crispness from the grain. Coffee, salt, a hint of peat. Sweeter caramel notes in the background. The sherry-cask maturation of some malts adds a winey quality unusual in an inexpensive blend.
Finish
Hot, spicy, clings on. Surprisingly long for the price. Toffee sweetness sustains.
