There is a lot to like about Whisky Review: The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year on paper. At 47.6% ABV), aged 16 years in French oak and finish and $217.99, let us see if it lives up to expectations.
Nose
Very light golden color, and so low in viscosity that it nearly appears to be Pinot Gris.
Palate
A strong strawberry note is immediately apparent, with a backing of citrus, wildflower honey, and grass. An excellent whisky produced with traditional methods and a non-traditional finish. Light, crisp, and very tasty in an uncommon way. If you like fruit-forward palates or enjoy French cuisine, you will love this whisky. If you prefer dark, sweet bourbons, this may not be for you.
Finish
95 Proof (47.6% ABV), aged 16 years in French oak and finished in Pineau casks, ~$217.99/750mL bottle. Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by Whiskeyful or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
The Bottom Line
Whisky Review: The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year delivers the goods. It is well-made, genuinely enjoyable, and at $217.99 represents solid value for what you are getting. I would happily buy this again.
