There is a lot to like about Westland Solum Edition 1 American Single Malt on paper — s Solum Edition 1 as one of the first American peat influenced whiskeys out there has been doing interesting work. At 50% ABV (100 Proof) and $149.99. Light, clean yellow with quick legs, let us see if it lives up to expectations.
Palate
As a proud Pacific Northwesterner, Im happy to welcome Westland Distillerys Solum Edition 1 as one of the first American peat influenced whiskeys out there. The whiskey is delicious and perfectly peated, and theres nothing Id rather sip on over an open campfire under a starry summer night sky.
Finish
Strong and sweet herbaceous notes early on, with streaks of marshmallow, anise, licorice, and peach. A long finish and clean, smooth mouthfeel made this whiskey stand up and speak to me. Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by Whiskeyful or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
The Bottom Line
Westland Solum Edition 1 American Single Malt is outstanding — one of those bottles that reminds you why you fell in love with whiskey in the first place. If you see it at $149.99. Light, clean yellow with quick legs, do not hesitate. This one earns a permanent spot on the shelf.
