Tasting Notes

Nose

Honey, cinnamon, raisins, fresh orchard fruit — the triple cask complexity immediately apparent

Palate

Creamy with ripe peach, red apple, baked custard, vanilla, black pepper, toasted oak — the Malaga cask adding rich dried-fruit sweetness that sets it apart from Green Spot

Finish

Long and warming — marzipan, dried apricot, the 46% non-chill-filtered delivery providing proper body and texture throughout

Expert Review

8.5/10

The revived Spot whiskey — Yellow Spot was discontinued mid-20th century and brought back in 2012. Part of Mitchell & Son's colour-coded system: Blue (7yr), Green (10yr), Yellow (12yr), Red (15yr). Triple-distilled single pot still at Midleton. The distinctive triple cask: American bourbon barrels, Spanish sherry butts, and rare Spanish Malaga casks — the Malaga being a unique and rare choice in Irish whiskey.
