Tasting Notes

Nose

Oak, caramel corn, vanilla fondant, dried dark fruit, leather, roasted nuts, citrus peels and baking spice. Sweet pears and cherries are dominant, with dark caramel, brown sugar and tart orange citrus. Quite warm and full.

Palate

Dark cherries, light toffee and brown sugar, with tart orange peel and tannins appearing quickly. Sweet at first sip before transitioning to spicy, oak-filled mid-palate. Burnt caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, toasted nuts. The 101 proof turns up the volume on everything familiar about Maker's.

Finish

Somewhat dry — dry wood, rising black pepper and tannins, lingering tart orange citrus and barrel char. More assertive than standard Maker's.

Expert Review

7.8/10

Maker's Mark at 101 proof — the wheated bourbon's familiar sweetness with more intensity and a richer, creamier mouthfeel.
