Tasting Notes

Nose

Intense peat, iodine, seaweed. A wave of maritime medicinal peat that defines Laphroaig — bandages, TCP, bonfire smoke on a salt-sprayed shore. Beneath the peat, malt, vanilla and a surprising sweetness. At cask strength, the full force of Islay hits before the glass reaches the lips.

Palate

Massive and peaty — smoke, brine, a medicinal intensity balanced by a surprising sweetness. The cask strength amplifies everything — the peat is more intense, the malt sweeter, the maritime character more vivid. Mid-palate brings charred oak, dark toffee and a savoury umami depth. Water reveals vanilla and citrus beneath the smoke.

Finish

Very long, with peat smoke and maritime character sustaining in waves of smoke and sweetness.

Expert Review

Laphroaig at full power — ten years of Islay peat, iodine and medicinal intensity without dilution.
