Clara Johansson — Good but not quite special

Picked this up expecting to be blown away given the price tag. It's a solid single malt — dried fruit, gentle smoke, a bit of dark chocolate on the finish. But at nearly £90 I keep thinking there are other 15-year-olds that give you more for the money. I enjoy it, just wouldn't rush to rebuy.

I've been working through the Highland Park range and the 15 is where things get serious. Rich heather honey on the nose with that signature Orkney peat smoke underneath. At 44% it's got enough punch to hold up neat but never burns. Worth the jump from the 12 if you can stretch to ninety quid.
