Tasting Notes

Nose

Golden syrup, Seville orange marmalade, dried apricots, mango, caramel, honey, raisins, figs, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon — the nose is the star

Palate

Spice-forward — pepper, lime zest, ginger, caramelized sugar, stewed apples, blood orange, pink grapefruit, rich but lighter-bodied than expected at 40%

Finish

Relatively short — candied ginger, toasted oak, honeysuckle, the 40% limiting the depth somewhat, though the rum influence adds tropical warmth

Originally launched in 2002 as 'Havana Reserve' using Cuban rum casks, renamed due to US trade embargo concerns. Twenty-one years in ex-bourbon casks, then finished approximately four months in Caribbean rum barrels. One of the earliest mainstream cask-finish expressions from a major Speyside distillery.
