Tasting Notes

Nose

Powdery sherbet, parma violets, pear drops, vanilla, cantaloupe, peach, lemon and lime — fresh, floral, waxy

Palate

Pear drop sweets leading, supported by malt, vanilla, citrus, sherbet, sweet vanilla syrup, lemon peel, oaty biscuits, ginger, cinnamon, aniseed spice

Finish

Mild spiciness into soft oak, a shy salty note — medium-full body, pleasantly long with balanced fruit and spice tapering into soft cereal

Expert Review

7.5/10

Often called one of Scotland's most underrated distilleries. Founded 1825 in Brechin, Angus. Spent decades as a blending component for Ballantine's and Stewart's Cream of the Barley before Angus Dundee Distillers acquired it in 2003 and began releasing single malts. Non-chill filtered, natural colour, 46%. Light, elegant, unpeated — and remarkably good value.
