Tasting Notes

Nose

Perfumed honeysuckle and rose, citrus, starfruit, lanolin, rich malty spice — a floral intensity unusual for Speyside, the worm tubs creating complexity

Palate

Waxy and woolly texture — fragrant lemongrass, honeysuckle, chamomile tea, ginger, marzipan, cinnamon, nutmeg, a subtle sulphury depth underneath — unctuous and sweet

Finish

Extraordinarily long — sweet spices, lingering sulphur kept in perfect balance, gentle warmth that speaks of 23 years of patience in the cask

Expert Review

9/10

The last of the 'meaty' Speysiders — built 1891 by Peter Mackie and Alexander Edward at the confluence of the Rivers Spey and Fiddich. Traditional worm tub condensers reduce copper contact, allowing heavier, meatier compounds to survive into the spirit. Best in Show at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Non-chill filtered at 46%. A cult following among whisky enthusiasts.
