Tasting Notes

Nose

Smooth peat smoke, ginger ale, orchard fruit, honey, light camphor — gentler than Islay

Palate

Sweet and earthy — rhubarb-and-custard sweets, cream, malt, granary toast, driftwood smoke, orange peel

Finish

Medium length — vanilla, tangy fruit, oily smoke and spice — Irish peat in mature form

Expert Review

7/10

Distilled at Cooley/Kilbeggan, aged 12 years in ex-bourbon casks. One of the very few peated Irish whiskeys; phenols around 13-14ppm. Double Gold at 2008 SF World Spirits Competition. 40%. Characterful, well-crafted peated Irish — softer than Islay rivals.
