Tasting Notes

Nose

Smooth peat smoke, ginger ale, orchard fruit, honey, light camphor — gentler than Islay

Palate

Sweet and earthy — rhubarb-and-custard sweets, cream, malt, granary toast, driftwood smoke, orange peel

Finish

Medium length — vanilla, tangy fruit, oily smoke and spice — Irish peat in mature form

First Impressions

Connemara 12 — aged peated Irish. Cooley/Kilbeggan. 13ppm. Double Gold SF 2008. 40%.

Tasting

Gentle peat and ginger nose. Sweet earthy palate with driftwood smoke. Medium oily finish. Mature Irish peat.

The Verdict

Connemara 12 earns a 7 — a characterful aged peated Irish at £60. Softer and less complex than Islay rivals at the price, but distinctly Irish.
