Tasting Notes

Nose

Soft peat, polished leather, brine, weathered rope — then toffee, vanilla, candied orange, dark chocolate — civilised and balanced

Palate

Medium-bodied — melon and fruity sweetness upfront, gentle peat, sherry influence, white pepper spice — more fruit-forward than expected for Islay

Finish

Long and warm — peat and leather resurging, smoke, tar, brine lingering — a civilised Islay dram

Expert Review

7.5/10

From Islay's oldest distillery (1779), on the shores of Loch Indaal. Uses floor maltings. Its legendary No. 1 Vaults — the oldest Scotch maturation warehouse, partially below sea level — contribute to the maritime character. Matured in ex-bourbon barrels and sherry casks. Replaced the 17 Year Old in 2007. More refined and approachable than younger expressions.
