Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet peat and flowers — apple juice and almonds revealing themselves on successive nosing, fresh pears, green apples, lemongrass, sandalwood, typical floral Speyside character

Palate

Smooth combination — nuts, cinnamon apples, delicate sherry sweetness, a faint hint of dark chocolate-dipped cherries, pecans, salt brine, the nine-month sherry finish adding richness without overwhelming

Finish

Medium length — slight warmth leading to gentle chest warming, a drying effect on the mouth that remains pleasant, sherry and oak in conversation

Expert Review

8/10

The pioneering double-matured single malt — aged in ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads, then finished for nine months in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. Malt Master David Stewart MBE invented this technique at Balvenie. Sweet peat, flowers, and sherry in a Speyside classic.
