Tasting Notes

Nose

Warm Christmas cake — walnut oil, parma violets, ocean spice, cedar, pine needles, deep peat smoke, coal tar, toffee, dried fruit, the sherry and peat in stunning combination

Palate

Bold smoky espresso — dark chocolate, raisins, pepper, salted caramel, tobacco, cocoa, marshmallow burnt over campfire, pecan pie, the 54.2% utterly approachable despite the strength

Finish

Long, smoky, warming — honey, oak, lingering spice, the marriage of bourbon and sherry casks creating an evolving finish, one of Islay's finest closes

Expert Review

9/10

Peat meets sherry at cask strength — ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks married together at 54.2%. Named for Loch Uigeadail, the source of Ardbeg's water. Christmas cake, espresso, dark chocolate, and marshmallow burnt over a campfire. The perfect example of how sweet and savoury work together spectacularly.
