Tasting Notes

Nose

Fruity and delicate — ripe grapes, cereals and malt. The Pineau des Charentes finishing — a regional aperitif of grape must and Cognac — adds a distinctive grape sweetness. Peat beneath.

Palate

Smooth and round — dried fruits, almond paste. The Pineau des Charentes cask finish gives an elegant, rounded peat character. The Alpine provenance and French wine finishing create something genuinely distinctive.

Finish

Gentle, with fruit and a composed, peat-tinged warmth.

Expert Review

This is a whiskey that rewards patience. The first sip is all caramel and vanilla, but give it twenty minutes in the glass and layers of baking spice, toasted oak, and dried stone fruit emerge. The mouthfeel is silky and rich. One of the best bottles I've opened this year.
