Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet mint, baby powder, stone fruits — apricot, fig — French vanilla, nutmeg, salted almonds, prominent oak — the Lustau sherry influence adding richness

Palate

Intense nuttiness from the Oloroso finish, raisins, dates, figs, bright red berries, zesty lemon pound cake covered in berry compote — rich, buttery, oily mouthfeel

Finish

Lengthy, creamy, and spicy all at once — lingering dried fruit and nut character, the Lustau butts leaving their Jerez signature throughout

First Impressions

Redbreast Lustau Edition — a collaboration between Irish Distillers and the renowned Bodegas Lustau in Jerez, Spain. The Lustau bodega is one of Jerez's most respected sherry producers, and their first-fill Oloroso butts add genuine depth to the classic Redbreast profile.

The Lustau Finish

Initially matured 9-12 years in bourbon and sherry casks at Midleton, then finished for one year in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts hand-selected from Lustau. Triple-distilled single pot still. Non-chill filtered at 46%.

Tasting

Stone fruit and vanilla nose with salted almonds. Intensely nutty palate with raisins, dates, and bright red berries — lemon pound cake with berry compote. Lengthy, creamy finish with dried fruit and nut character. More depth than Redbreast 12.

The Verdict

Redbreast Lustau earns an 8.5 — one of the best value single pot still Irish whiskeys available. At £68, it delivers more depth and complexity than Redbreast 12 at a similar price. The Lustau collaboration is genuine — these sherry butts transform the whiskey. Essential Irish whiskey.
