Tasting Notes

Nose

Tropical fruits, prunes, black cherries, preserved fruits, orange peel, chocolate-covered raisins, mace, cinnamon, cloves — extraordinarily rich and layered

Palate

Vanilla and toasted oak from bourbon, coconut and toffee, then mango, pineapple, orange citrus, candied walnuts — the ruby port adding luscious fleshy fruit, silky mouthfeel

Finish

Extraordinarily long — lingering oak, warm spices, the triple-cask maturation creating a finish that lasts for minutes

First Impressions

Redbreast 27 — the crown jewel of Irish pot still. 27 years at Midleton. Bourbon, Oloroso, and ruby port casks. Cask strength, 54.6%. Whiskybase 90/100.

Tasting

Rich tropical fruit nose. Silky palate of mango, pineapple, and candied walnuts with ruby port fruit. Extraordinarily long finish. Among Ireland's finest.

The Verdict

Redbreast 27 earns a 9.5 — a benchmark for aged single pot still Irish whiskey. At £500, premium, but the ruby port cask and 27 years of maturation create something extraordinary. The crown jewel.
