Tasting Notes

Nose

Dried fruit, marzipan, beeswax, leather, dark chocolate and pot still spice.

Palate

Thick and oily — fruitcake, toasted oak, clove, walnut, dried apricot and the unmistakable creamy pot still backbone.

Finish

Long, spicy, oily, with lingering sherry sweetness and dark chocolate.

First Impressions

Pour Redbreast 15 and the glass turns mahogany. Bottled at 46% and non-chill filtered, this is Single Pot Still in its most uncompromised aged form.

Distillery & Heritage

Distilled at Midleton in County Cork from a mash of malted and unmalted barley — the defining mark of Single Pot Still Irish whiskey — Redbreast 15 is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and first-fill Oloroso sherry casks for at least 15 years.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose offers dried fruit, marzipan, beeswax and leather over signature pot still spice. The palate is thick and oily with fruitcake, toasted oak, clove and walnut.

Verdict

For many drinkers, Redbreast 15 is the sweet spot.
