First Impressions
Redbreast 12 is made at Midleton Distillery in Cork — one of Ireland's largest and most historic operations. The single pot still style uses both malted and unmalted barley, triple-distilled in copper pot stills. This combination produces the distinctive full-bodied, creamy, oily texture that defines the category. Aged 12 years in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks.
Tasting
The nose is sweet toffee with dried fruit and citrus peel. On the palate at 40%, full-bodied and creamy with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, vanilla, and sherry fruitiness. The finish is lengthy with lingering spices and malt sweetness.
The Verdict
Redbreast 12 earns a 9 — the definitive Irish pot still whiskey. The malted-plus-unmalted barley combination creates a texture and richness that no other whiskey category can match. At £48, a 200-year tradition in every sip. Essential Irish whiskey.
