RAER Oloroso Expression is the sherry-finished variant from Jackton Distillery — a blended Scotch of grain and malt whisky decanted into first-fill oloroso sherry casks from Jerez. The oloroso finishing adds abundant sweet, fruity wine flavours to the blend.
The oloroso influence is generous. Deep dried fruit, nutty warmth and wine-derived sweetness dominate the palate, though the additional maturation also introduces a considerable spiciness — peppery warmth that builds through the mid-palate and sustains into the finish. Some will find this spice invigorating; others may find it a little intense.
RAER Oloroso is a competent oloroso-finished blend from an emerging Scottish producer. The sherry influence is genuine and generous, the quality reliable, and the price fair.
