RAER Amontillado Expression is produced by the team at Jackton Distillery near East Kilbride — a family-owned operation south-east of Glasgow. The blended Scotch is decanted into amontillado sherry casks for further maturation, adding a dry, nutty sherry quality quite different from the sweeter oloroso or PX finishes that dominate the market.
The amontillado choice is distinctive. Amontillado sherry is oxidatively aged, producing drier, nuttier, more complex flavours than the sweeter sherry styles. On a blended Scotch, this adds sophistication and a subtle complexity that sweeter finishes cannot provide.
