First Impressions
Powers — Ireland's number one selling whiskey — is what Irish pubs have poured for generations. A blend of pot still and grain whiskies from Midleton, matured in American oak. At 43.2% — slightly higher than Jameson's 40% — Powers is the more assertive Irish blend.
Tasting
The nose is cinnamon and clove with russet apples. On the palate at 43.2%, honey with green pepper, nutmeg, and toasted oak. The finish is long with pot still oils and complex honey.
The Verdict
Powers Gold Label earns a 7 — Ireland's pub whiskey, more assertive than Jameson. The pot still component adds spicy richness. At £25, the whiskey Ireland actually drinks. Excellent value.
