Tasting Notes

Nose

Full and floral — smooth sweetness of marmalade and fudge, a hint of Madeira, cut grass, orchard fruits fresh and cooked, vanilla cream, beeswax and lemon peel

Palate

Light and clean — malt and vanilla with under-ripe citrus, grassy notes, cocoa, a banana-like fruit, toasted cereal, cinnamon and honey, the triple distillation producing remarkable smoothness

Finish

Medium — lemon tartness first, then toasted cereal, cinnamon, and honey, the smoothness that made Jameson the world's number one Irish whiskey

First Impressions

John Jameson founded his Dublin distillery in 1780. Now produced at the Midleton Distillery in Cork — one of Ireland's largest and most modern operations — Jameson is the world's best-selling Irish whiskey. A blend of traditional pot still whiskey and column-distilled grain whiskey, triple-distilled and aged for a minimum of four years. The triple distillation removes heavier compounds, creating the signature lightness and smoothness.

Tasting

The nose is full and floral — marmalade, fudge, Madeira, cut grass, and orchard fruits. On the palate at 40%, light and clean with malt, vanilla, citrus, cocoa, and toasted cereal. The finish is medium with lemon tartness, cinnamon, and honey.

The Verdict

Jameson earns a 7 — the Irish whiskey that introduced millions to the category. Triple distillation produces a smoothness that makes it endlessly approachable. Not complex, not challenging, but reliable and satisfying. At £22, the foundation of Irish whiskey and the world's favourite for good reason.
