Tasting Notes

Nose

Fresh rye grain, mint, caraway, honey, soft vanilla and a hint of orange zest.

Palate

Bright and herbal — peppery rye, dill, baked apple, butterscotch and a touch of clove.

Finish

Clean, dry and spicy with lingering mint, oak and rye bread crust.

First Impressions

100% organic rye, made by a husband-and-wife team in Purcellville, Virginia.

Distillery & Heritage

Founded in 2009 by Becky and Scott Harris, Catoctin Creek became the first legal distillery in Loudoun County since before Prohibition. Becky is the head distiller — one of the few women leading an American whiskey distillery.

Tasting Notes in Detail

100% rye mashbills are rare in America (most ryes hover at 51-65%) and the difference shows: this is herbal, bright, mint-forward and grain-driven.

Verdict

One of the cleanest, most expressive ryes in America.
