Had high hopes based on the hype and it's perfectly fine rye whiskey. Spicy, a bit sweet, nice long finish. But I've had Kentucky ryes at half the price that give me the same experience. The family estate bottling is cool and the bottle looks great on the shelf, I'll give it that.

Look, it's a solid rye — loads of peppery kick and some nice caramel sweetness underneath all that proof. But at nearly £94 for a 4 year old, I can't help feeling you're paying for the Willett name. I'd buy it again on sale but not at full price.

For a 4 year old rye this has no business being this good. At 56% ABV it's hot out of the bottle but give it ten minutes in the glass and you get this beautiful wave of baking spice, cinnamon, and cracked black pepper. I added a few drops of water and it opened up even more. Willett knows what they're doing with rye.

At 56% ABV it's hot out of the bottle but give it ten minutes in the glass and you get this beautiful wave of baking spice, cinnamon, and cracked black pepper. I added a few drops of water and it opened up even more. Willett knows what they're doing with rye.

I drink most of my ryes in cocktails and this one makes an absolutely killer Manhattan. The high proof means it doesn't get lost behind the vermouth, and those spicy rye notes really shine through. Neat it's a bit aggressive for my taste but that's what it's built for.
