Expert Review

8.1/10

Old Perth's 2009 Vintage Collection delivers a 15-year-old cask-strength blended malt at a fair price point, with the brand's signature sherry-led style and the kind of depth that only patient maturation can provide.

It's a perfectly nice sherried whisky and the cask strength is welcome, but I found it stayed in one lane the whole way through. Dried fruit, more dried fruit, bit of spice, done. At nearly a hundred quid I'd probably reach for something with a bit more going on. Not bad by any means though.

I've had a few from the Vintage Collection and this 2009 is my favourite so far. The nose is incredible — raisins, toffee, a touch of leather. Palate delivers exactly what the nose promises. I'm already thinking about grabbing a backup bottle before they're gone.

This is all dried fruits, cinnamon, and nutmeg. My partner even commented on how good it smelled when I poured it. At 53.6% it's got serious warmth but never feels harsh. A proper winter evening whisky.

Nice warming dram with dried fruit and a hint of orange peel. The cask strength gives it plenty of body without being overpowering. I wouldn't say it blew me away but I've gone back to it several nights in a row, which says something.

For a 15 year old at cask strength, £95 is genuinely good value these days. Rich sherry-soaked fruit on the nose, then dark chocolate and stewed plums on the palate. I added a few drops of water to tame the 53.6% and it really opened up into something special. One of the better bottles in the Old Perth range for me.
