Tasting Notes

Nose

Dry fruits and plums — fresh oak shavings, black tea, saffron, elegant butter, caramel, and sherry, the marriage of Yoichi peat and Miyagikyo elegance

Palate

Barley-forward — caramel and dried fruits hitting first, oaky spice mid-palate, cinnamon and anise later, winter spice and toffee, vanilla, a good mouthful of fruit, the 51.4% adding body without aggression

Finish

Surprisingly long for NAS — rich caramel and spicy oak, the oak cask marriage evident in the integrated complexity, warming and persistent

Expert Review

9/10

The best Japanese whisky you can both find and afford — a marriage of malt from Yoichi Distillery and grain from Miyagikyo, blended and 'married' in oak casks before bottling at a forthright 51.4%. Dry fruits, butter, caramel, and sherry with a surprisingly long finish. Beautifully constructed and malt-forward.
